The main focus of the group is the application of rigorous mathematical models for quantitative analysis and deep understanding of problems in science and engineering. We have extensive mathematical modeling expertise: from partial differential equations to agent-based modeling, dynamical systems or topological methods. Through research, we combine classical differential equation modeling with asymptotic analysis and modern coding to develop a software package that is both fast and comprehensive, and we have developed a highly successful model of lithium-ion batteries. We are exploring ways to apply topological data analysis to model phase transitions of mesoscopic physical systems, as well as to improve and extend optical imaging in medical applications as precursors to effective machine learning and data analysis.
